‘Photographing others: Portrait Photography Workshop’ 27 November 2022

UWC Cyprus organised a portrait photography workshop addressed to young people aged between 14 and 17 years old, in collaboration with 6x6 centre for photography.

The event was published as follows:

Join us to learn useful tips and techniques on portrait photography
while making friends from across Cyprus!

Workshop goals

This practical portrait photography workshop will help you take your portrait skills to the next level and to overcome the challenges of photographing people, using only natural light and a few easy but useful techniques, and shooting styles.

The participants will practice on exploring their "model" both as a documentary subject, and as a photographic portrait.

How much can you find out about the "other",
and how can you capture them photographically?

Through the power of imagery, participants will be able to communicate ideas, emotions, and narratives via a non-verbal medium.

The workshop will be led by a professional photographer who will guide the participants on the basics of portraiture, composition, lighting and technique, and will demonstrate tips and tricks to maximise photographic potential.

By providing a meaningful context of experiential learning and interaction between youth from across the divide in Cyprus, this workshop falls within the overall aim of contributing to building a bridge of mutual understanding between Cypriot communities.

Please note that a camera or smartphone is required for participation in the workshop.

Participation is free, but we encourage early applications as the places are limited.

The workshop is funded by the EU and is taking place in the framework of

the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC.
