Diversity in Action: Youth Have a Voice!

UWC Cyprus is looking for facilitators to join the UWC residential short course Diversity in Action.  The facilitators can take part firstly online during the preparation face, and  face to face during the residential activities. International facilitators are welcomed!

Honorarium:

 

Facilitators will receive an honorarium upon completion of the course. Accommodation and meals during the training and short course will be covered by the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC. Other course-related expenses, including travel, will be reimbursed in agreement with the Project Coordinator and upon submission of receipts upon completion of the course. 


Training:

The team will receive both virtual and on-site training on facilitation, safeguarding, and conflict resolution. 

 

Overview:

 

A short course facilitator helps to effectively deliver a UWC short course by moderating and facilitating weekly activities and supporting participants. You will lead activities, workshops and discussions and engage participants using different experiential education methods. As a facilitator you are responsible for the wellbeing of the participants and to follow the UWC Code of conduct. Prior to the course, you will assist in the design of workshops, bringing in your own interests and skills, with the support of a coordinator.

 

You will be part of a collaborative environment. Working together with an international team of facilitators from different backgrounds, you will have the chance to develop your leadership and teamwork skills. You are encouraged to contribute to the programme design and suggest ways to enrich the learning experience both before and during the course. 

 

 

During the course you will:

 

  • Deliver or assist in the delivery of all sessions, together with a co-facilitator(s), including workshops, group discussions, or social/cultural activities.
  • Engage with participants and encourage respectful discussion and exchange of ideas and experiences.
  • Ensure the participation of all team members according to the safeguarding rules and the code of conduct. 
  • Meet with team members to debrief and plan out final preparation of the course activities.

 

Training Provided: All coordinators and facilitators will attend training on facilitation techniques and safeguarding prior to the course. These sessions will take place online in May and June and they are mandatory. 

 

 

What we’re looking for:

 

  • Affinity with UWCs mission and values
  • A passion for education and delivering UWC’s theory of change
  • Background and/or interest in the topic of diversity and inclusion, from any discipline (social
  • sciences, natural sciences, humanities)
  • Affinity with high school youth
  • Affinity with and knowledge of the Mediterranean region
  • Problem solving, care flexibility and diligence in addressing participant concerns
  • Effective communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience in facilitation, public speaking and/or teaching is preferred
  • Proficient in use of technologies like Zoom or other video conferencing and Google Drive tools
  • Pro-activity and responsiveness
  • Enthusiasm and dynamism
  • Working language skills in English
  • Minimum 18 years old

Qualifications:

 

 

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation, teaching, or mentoring young individuals.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of diversity, inclusion, and global leadership principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to connect with participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in creating and delivering engaging, interactive, and impactful learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with European values and an understanding of their significance in a global context is desirable.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to promoting equality and social justice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently when required.
  • Prior experience in organizing leadership programs or workshops is an advantage.
